  • 1 cup of basmati rice
  • ½ cup of green lentils
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp of red chili powder

    Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of coriander powder
  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp of garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • 1 tsp of mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 inch of ginger, grated
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup of chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • ½ cup of chopped fresh mint leaves
  • ½ cup of chopped fresh curry leaves

Instructions

Now that we have all the ingredients ready, let’s get started with making annavaram prasadam at home!

  1. Rinse the basmati rice and soak it in water for at least 30 minutes. Afterward, drain the water and add it to a pot along with green lentils and 2 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 45-50 minutes or until the rice and lentils are cooked through and the water has been absorbed.
  2. While the rice and lentils are cooking, prepare the vegetables by chopping the onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and green chilies finely.
  3. In a large skillet or pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté for a few minutes until they become translucent. Then add the chopped tomatoes, grated ginger, minced garlic, slit green chilies, and turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the tomatoes start to soften and release their juices.
  4. Add the cooked rice and lentils to the skillet and mix well with the vegetables and spices. Add salt to taste, then add coriander powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Mix everything together and cook for about 2-3 minutes or until everything is heated through and the flavors come together.
  5. Finally, garnish the annavaram prasadam with chopped fresh coriander leaves, mint leaves, and curry leaves.
